Short track speed skaters at the starting line of an Olympic-themed booster shot commercial

Storyboarding an Olympic-themed spot for Utah’s COVID-19 booster campaign.

Overview

As part of the Utah Governor’s Office’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination campaign, I helped create two commercials encouraging residents to get their booster shot, timed to run during the 2022 Winter Olympics. The “Don’t Stop Short” concept played off the Olympic spirit, following characters pausing just before crossing the finish line or sinking the final basket, drawing a parallel to stopping short of full vaccination protection.

The Challenge

By 2022, many Utahns had started their vaccinations and stopped short of a booster. The challenge was to show visually why a booster matters, and to encourage people to keep going.

The Idea

“Don’t Stop Short.” Timed to the Winter Olympics, two commercials follow athletes who pause just before the finish line and the final basket, a picture of what stopping short feels like. I drew the boards frame by frame, assisted with casting and supported the director on set.
