Beat the Street logo over pixel-art and 3D game-style scenes for the K-3 and 4-6 programs

Evolving the Beat the Street safety assembly program.

Overview

Beat the Street is a Safe Routes Utah pedestrian safety assembly for elementary students, split into two programs for grades K-3 and 4-6. I refreshed the look of both assemblies, introduced new characters and rural-focused content, and led the creation of countless videos across both programs including virtual Spanish presentations when COVID moved learning online. Alongside the videos, I designed supporting handouts, coloring books and various promotional materials.

The Challenge

Beat the Street assemblies return to the same schools year after year, and a presentation that never changes loses its audience. The program needed to keep kids engaged, speak to rural communities, and keep teaching when COVID moved learning online.

The Idea

Keep the worlds kids already know, the Alien assembly for K–3 and the Fortnite assembly for grades 4–6, and refresh everything around them: new settings, characters, sounds and videos, new content on crossing guards and pickup zones, rural-specific slides, and virtual Spanish presentations.
