Rendering of the Rio Tinto corner booth: a wood slat wall with a backlit logo and a red wall with a grid of spinning question boards

Designing an interactive booth for Rio Tinto at MINEXCHANGE.

Overview

Rio Tinto wanted a branded presence at MINEXCHANGE in Salt Lake City. I concepted most of the corner booth, including the walls and the spinning question wall, from the backlit logo and 3D tagline to boards that give attendees something to do besides pick up swag. Another designer developed the element wall and refined the final build.

The Challenge

Rio Tinto wanted a branded presence at the MINEXCHANGE conference in Salt Lake City: a 10-by-10 corner booth with an 8-foot-3 height limit, room for the client’s TVs and iPads, simple static visuals, and an interactive element beyond the swag.

The Idea

A wall of spinning boards. Each one poses a question about Rio Tinto’s operations in America and turns to reveal the answer, turning facts into a game under the tagline “Made in America for America.” A backlit logo and warm wood slats anchor the corner.
